How long does it take for the batteries to run down on a Border Collie? Who knows?

No matter how long you spend or how many times you throw them the ball , or throw anything for that matter, they seem to be able to go and go, just like the energizer bunny. I have yet to be able to wear out a Border Collie before they wear me out first.

How long can they keep going before they collapse, has to be one of the age old unanswered questions of all times about Border Collies.  I doubt anyone knows the answer. I feel pretty sure that no human has ever been able to last long enough themselves to find out the answer to that question.

Now it is possible that sometimes when they take a down position, like after a 100 throws or so, that they will use that moment to catch their breath, or maybe they’re just waiting for you to give them a new command or something. But it is much briefer than a moment , and then they are up and running again. 

The truth of the matter is that Border Collies love to spend time with their owners. They cherish every moment of every opportunity. You can see it in their eyes, in their enthusiasm, and certainly in their endurance.

That is why they make such good family or companion dogs. Although they are born with a natural born desire and talent for herding and most any type of work that you need them to do, it is not necessary that they just spend their day herding or working.

It is true that they have a seemingly endless supply of energy, and they can definitely work all day, and it is also true that they need to use that energy to keep healthy and keep from becoming frustrated. But that’s where you can help.

That is where the time spent with you, whether it be just chilling with you cuddled up on the couch or taking a walk, but preferably time spent in the outdoors, running, chasing, jumping, or fetching, or anything that has the ability to use up that stored up energy, becomes so important.

So take the time every day to give your canine friend some of what he craves the most. Your Time. It will do you both a world of good. 

It is actually the way they recharge those batteries, and just like the Energizer Bunny, your Energizer Border Collie will keep going and going, hopefully for a lot of years yet to come.
